Mercedes-Benz F1 driver Nico Rosberg will help start the DTM season
At the opener to the DTM (German Touring Car) season on May 4 and 5, teams and excited fans will be joined at the Hockenheimring circuit by Nico Rosberg.
Rosberg is a driver for the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 team, and will act as a special representative for the brand once again. He’s already familiar with the world of DTM, having spent time on the supporting Formula 3 Euro Series programme. At the first race of the 2012 season, he was also present to help kick off proceedings – just days after his first F1 win.
This year, Nico Rosberg is also mentoring the Mercedes-Benz DTM Junior Team, providing expert racing advice and guidance for young drivers. The manufacturer is deliberately pushing youth talent and investing in them this season. As a result, the starting team for Mercedes-Benz is the only one with an average age of just 23 years old. Rookie driver Pascal Wehrlein will set a new record for the youngest driver in the 28-year history of DTM, at 18 years and 188 days old.
Visitors to the circuit will have an exclusive chance to see the F1 star in action – he’ll be on chauffeur duty in the Mercedes-Benz DTM ‘race taxi’. The brand is holding a special competition for the event, and one lucky winner will be taken on a lap of the Hockenheim ring by Rosberg. The trip will be made in a special DTM Mercedes-AMG C-Coupé, providing a sneak peek into the cabin and a racer’s view of the track.
